Healthy eating is a way of balancing the food you eat to keep your body in great health.  With healthy eating, you’ll have energy all day, get the vitamins and minerals you need, stay strong for activities you enjoy, and maintain a healthy weight.

Below, you’ll find tips designed to help you with healthy eating.

 1.  Don’t Skip Meals

Eating 3 meals with snacks in between is the ideal way to maintain both energy and a healthy weight. When you skip meals and get hungry, you’re more than likely to choose foods that aren’t very good for you. If you are eating away from home, take food with you or know where you can buy healthy food from.

 2.  Learn How to Prepare Healthy Meals

Instead of deep frying, try grilling, stir frying, baking, and even boiling.  You should also try fresh or even dried herbs and spices to add flavor to your food.  Before you eat any type of meat, be sure to trim the fat and skin off of it.

 3.  Avoid Sugary Drinks

Drinks that contain sugar are a major source of empty energy.  What this means, is that the drinks contain a lot of energy that your body may not need, and it doesn’t contain any vitamins or minerals.  If you plan to drink sugary drinks, don’t go overboard; limit yourself to 1 a day.

 4.  Avoid Thinking about Diets

Avoid putting labels on food; this is good food and that is bad foods. All food should be part of a healthy diet, when eaten the right way and in moderation.  Don’t buy any low carb, fat free or even diet foods, as these foods have lots of other added ingredients to replace the carbohydrates or fat that was taken out.

A Side Note:  Carbohydrates are not bad. They are needed for energy just as much as fat and protein are. But, if you eat carbs that are fast acting, that is the problem.  Complex carbs are absorbed more slowly by the body than “fast acting ” carbs, your blood sugar stays stable and you feel fuller longer, preventing cravings for more food. Complex or slow acting carbs contain the vitamins and nutrients that you need and boosting your overall health and you will even lose weight and keep your weight stable.

You need to eat more complex or slow acting carbs. Head to your local farmer’s market or grocery store and purchase things like whole wheat pasta and bread, barley, avocados, mangos and other fresh produce. Make sure to buy enough slow carbs for both meals and snacks. At the same time do not stock your pantry with fast acting carbs such as white bread, white rice and pasta without the fiber, and sugary cereals or fatty carb-filled snacks such as potato chips, Twinkies, donuts, exedra. No sugary drinks as well.

Remember, 100 years or more ago, people ate the same foods we do today, excluding boxed, canned and even processed prepared foods. They were never over weight, chronically sick, had allergies or inflammation, exedra. But today we are overweight, have allergies, troubled with inflammation, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, IBS, thyroid problems (gland that regulates hormones in both men & women) and the list goes on.

Here is an example of how we all should be eating, again these are just examples:

One serving of complex or slow acting carbohydrates mixed with protein for each meal and snack.

Breakfast:

Eat whole wheat toast, an egg and a serving of fruit for breakfast

Snack Time:

Celery sticks with a tablespoon of peanut butter

Dinner:

Grilled fish or chicken with vegetables

Eat three regular meals combining a serving of slow carbs and protein spaced out throughout the day as well as two to three healthy snacks between meals to keep your blood sugar stable and your metabolism moving.

We have to follow rules in society to have order. That is what laws are for. But your health is in your hands. Yes doctors are to help us when we get sick. But if you thought about eating healthy and living healthy, would you need a doctor very often? Knowledge is power. Good health is the ability to do a lot of things you desire to do. Don’t assign food as the enemy and excuse as to why we are overweight and unhealthy.
